Darts Premier League 2022 Night 2 picks, tips and betting guide
Our expert tipster Dave South provides picks for Night 2 of the Darts Premier League in Liverpool.
Week one of the 2022 Premier League saw the new format treat the audience to seven games of delightful darts. Full crowds were welcomed back at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, with a strong presence of noise, laughter and chanting throughout the night. Reigning World Champion, Peter Wright hot-shotted his way to victory on night one by beating Michael Smith, edging Gary Anderson and making light work of Jonny Clayton in a 6-1 victory with an impressive 113.02 average.

|Premier League 2022||Odds|
|Michael van Gerwen||+600|
After week one of Premier League Darts, the smart pick is Peter Wright, who could become the world ranked number one in the coming days: a lifelong ambition for ‘Snakebite’. With prices of +430 to win outright and +125 to reach the final, making Snakebite a little under evens on the money line in the final. Other outright markets, if available, would be to consider there not to be a perfect leg finish in the event and should be found around the +150 line.
Here’s the draw for Thursday’s action in Liverpool in the Darts Premier League 2022:
Peter Wright (-150) vs Michael van Gerwen (+130)
Jonny Clayton (-150) vs Michael Smith (+130)
James Wade (+110) vs Joe Cullen (-137)
Gerwyn Price (-200) vs Gary Anderson (+175)
Looking at the draw, the bottom half certainly carries the better possibility of picking a winner on the night from Wade, Cullen, Price and Anderson. Gerwyn Price is naturally the favorite from the four, followed by Cullen, Anderson and then Wade in that order. With US firms pricing this market, we would favor Peter Wright to win again in Liverpool this week and should aim for a target position of +450 to consider taking the bet on. Snakebite reigned supreme a week ago, with clinical displays against Michael Smith, and Gary Anderson before putting on a darting clinic to destroy Jonny Clayton in the final.
Too close to call?
There are some very tough games to call on the night. Wade and Cullen will have points to prove as they step up to the oche on Thursday. Previous winner, Wade will enter as the slight underdog; however, Master Champion, Cullen will want to be quick out of the blocks to get a decent head start on him. Cullen is certainly the bigger maximum hitter and is -200 with sportsbooks to win the most 180s. Last time out, he hit five in eight legs, while Wade nailed just three in 19 legs. Over a best of eleven legs format, the expected maximums per leg should edge Cullen into coming good on this Premier League dart pick, and creating a multiple bet for the evening.
Elsewhere, Michael Smith vs Jonny Clayton should see a plethora of maximums and could be game of the night. Their incredible scoring games should see the money line firmly between 5.5 and 6.5 on the night. An acceptable price from the quick paced play of both players should be around the -100 mark to meet seven or more on the night. Smith is favorite to hit the most maximums in the whole event, and Clayton took ten maximums in twenty-five legs in week one, so on paper, this should be the game of the evening with expected 180s.
Peter Wright’s luck may run out on week two, as Mighty Michael van Gerwen seeks revenge on his foe. MVG is a tasty +130 to see off the World Champion. He is below par according to many critics, but the price is tempting enough over the short format for The Green Machine to turn his luck around on the Premier League stage. Wright was victor in Sunday’s pro tour, defeating Gerwyn Price in the final. However, the -150 on the money line is a smidgen short on the match price. The game does warrant a little insurance, so back MVG at -133 with a +1.5 handicap and double up with the Joe Cullen maximum bet.
