Your guide to women's soccer betting online

Women’s soccer is constantly growing. After being banned by the Football Association in the UK 100 years ago, the sport has made an astronomical comeback.

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the US, and Women’s Super League (WSL) in the UK, house some of the best talents on the planet and with 1.12 billion people tuning into the 2019 World Cup, the rise in popularity cannot be ignored.

Several Women’s Super League fixtures have been postponed since the new year, but this weekend shows promise of bringing England’s top-flight action back in all its glory.

This week’s spotlight match is Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur — a battle between two sides both hoping to secure Champions League football for the first time at the end of the season. As it stands, both clubs are tied on points in the WSL table, with Man United currently sitting in third, only ahead on goal difference.

Growing together

Fourth place Spurs had the opportunity to go second in the rankings in its most recent match. The north London club looked sure to bag three points against West Ham last weekend, but an injury time equalizer salvaged a point for the Irons and robbed Spurs of the chance to leapfrog reigning champion Chelsea.

After the last gasp disappointment, Tottenham will be eager to redeem the previous result by putting some daylight between themselves and Man United. The only way to do that is to come out on top this Sunday.

The task at hand will be a big one, as only goal difference separates these two teams at the moment. Spurs and United have both won, drawn, and lost exactly the same number of games.

The Manchester outfit is coming off the back of a 5-0 victory over Aston Villa, so spirits in the United camp will be high.

It’s extremely hard to pick the clubs apart as it stands. Both outfits are still new to the WSL, having earned promotion into the top bracket together in 2019 after the newly structured Man United won the Championship, with Spurs finishing second.

It will be a matter of who blinks first when these two meet. On paper, Spurs has the better defensive record this term, conceding eight goals to United’s 13. But the Red Devils have the higher goal tally, with 24 scored compared to Tottenham’s 13.

Dark horses shining

Spurs is perhaps this campaign’s biggest dark horse. After finishing eighth last season, the north London side has stunned women’s football followers with a run of incredible form. After beating last year’s runners-up Manchester City and drawing with league leaders Arsenal, Tottenham skyrocketed up the table and is in real contention for European football.

The last meeting between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw. Alessia Russo scored for United, only to see her goal cancelled out by a last-minute equalizer from Ria Percival.

Ella Toone is the current top scorer for Man United with five goals and five assists, while Rachel Williams leads the way for Spurs with four goals and two assists.

These two forwards will be crucial in Sunday’s clash but it’s difficult to predict who will strike first and whether it will be enough to secure all three points. In this extremely evenly matched fixture, it could go either way but with a lot at stake for both sides, it could be another stalemate result.

The long-awaited Tokyo Olympics took place in 2021, a year after initially scheduled, due to setbacks caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the delay, it was well worth the wait as a new champion was crowned through Canada, marking the first time the country won gold at the Games.

The USA holds the record for most gold medals won in women’s Olympic soccer with four, but suffered a huge upset in Tokyo after being knocked out in the semi final by the eventual champion nation. Despite finishing third at the 2020 Games, the USA remains top of the world rankings with Sweden and Germany in second and third respectively. The next Olympics will be held in Paris in 2024, but excitement has already started to build for when Canada enters the stage to defend its title.
