The 2022 edition of Premier League Darts has returned! This year's tournament looks set to be one of the best instalments yet. The popular tournament will run across two seasons from February 03 until May 26. On January 14, the PDC announced a new format for the Premier League. The event will consist of an eight-person knockout event every game night instead of the previously used round robin. Each night will feature seven matches all played over the best-of-11 legs. Players will receive two points per semi-final finish, three points per runner-up finish, and five points per final win. The draw will ensure all players face off at least once in phase one and once more in the second phase.
Price, Wright, van Gerwen and Wade qualified by right. Smith and Anderson are the next two players in the order of merit, with Clayton (defending champion) and Cullen as the invitees to the event, outside of the top four. The 2022 Premier League has four previous winners (Michael van Gerwen, James Wade, Gary Anderson and Jonny Clayton), two previous runners up (Wright and Smith) and Cullen, a debutant.
Premier League 2022 | Odds |
---|---|
Gerwyn Price | +450 |
Peter Wright | +500 |
Michael van Gerwen | +550 |
James Wade | +600 |
Michael Smith | +850 |
Gary Anderson | +1500 |
Jonny Clayton | +1700 |
Joe Cullen | +2500 |
The favourite
World number one Gerwyn Price heads the betting around the +450 mark, although the pricing is fairly open with Price, van Gerwen, Wright and Clayton. The format does not favor taking the favorite on as a long-term wager. However, out of the four, Clayton will be desperate to defend his title and from the four above, bar Wright, is the hottest inform player of the last six months. The Ferret’s approach to the format could make him a dangerous contender. His expansive experience is making the defending champion a good runner with his clinical and consistent manner toeing the oche at +600.
Longshot
Joe Cullen will be hoping to match Clayton’s 2021 achievement of winning the tournament as a debutant. And at a price of +1500, Cullen is a great longshot opportunity. With youth very much still on side, the weekly events will incorporate Rockstar with the suited format. Cullen won the PDC Masters on Sunday and can make the most of the invite to elevate his career. At these odds, he should give you a run for your money and should not be ignored. Other bets of interest
Most 180s
One bet to keep an eye on is most 180s by player - and the front runner for good reason will be Michael Smith. Bullyboy smashed the previous record set by Gary Anderson in 2017 by hitting a mammoth 83 in the PDC World Championships. When this is priced, we recommended all readers get behind it if the price is decent.
The nine-dart finish is generally a bet that punters like to consider, alongside the 170 market. However, this perfect leg is occurring more frequently and would expect this outcome to be around the -100 mark or as close to even money as possible.

What is the Premier League darts?
The Premier League was set up in 2005, but has quickly established itself as one of the highlights of the darting calendar. Ten of the best darts players in the world meet in a double round-robin format, playing each other twice over several nights at different venues across the UK and Europe.
Judgment Night sees the field reduced to eight, who play each other again once. The top four in the table then meet on Finals Night to decide the winner. Bettors love the event for the numerous opportunities it offers to bet on top-class darts action.
